You can do this meditation every night, after your children are all tucked in, or save it for those times when they're having a hard time falling asleep.
Parents: snuggle up together in bed.
Teachers: have everyone lay supine (face up) on the floor, at least a few inches away from each other.
Describe a single candle flame, flickering gently inside their heart. There is a little golden glow surrounding the flame as it bobs up and down, the way candle flames do. Keep reminding them to watch the flame flickering, allowing a few seconds of silence the first time, then longer and longer stretches of silence.
This meditation focuses the mind while being especially cooling and calming. It's helpful for children struggling with emotional upheavals of all kinds, or those facing a big mental challenge the next day (like a test), as it develops clarity of mind.
