The eight auspicious symbols represent the offerings made by the gods to Shakyamuni Buddha when he attained enlightenment.  

The blossoming lotus is the symbol of purity and compassion. Just as the lotus has its roots in mud but blossoms into a beautiful flower, individuals have the potential to pacify obstacles and attain enlightenment.
